The First Belgrade singing company was founded next to the Congregation Church in 1853, and it stayed active to this day. Important composers conducted this choir, such as Josif Marinkovic, Stevan Mokranjac, Kornelije Stankovic and others. From a small singing company founded by a group of citizens, the choir grew into a true national institution.
