The first tavern in Europe began work in Dorcol in 1522. It only served black coffee which is why this type of establishment in Serbia got the name "kafana" (kafa = coffee), which in Turkish means 'a house for drinking coffee'. The first taverns in London, Marseille, Vienna and Leipzig were opened a century after.
