Yoga is the science of the body, mind, and spirit. It is a precious gift from Indian sages to the world. This science has been developed over hundreds and thousands of years, born from their desire to help people in all life circumstances without the use of instruments, medicines, or other external means. They sought a method that would depend solely on what every person possesses—his body, mind, and spirit.
The physical benefits you can expect from practicing include improved circulation, increased muscle elasticity, greater strength, and resilience to diseases. Yoga particularly focuses on the spine, whose increased flexibility results in good health and mitigates many difficulties of modern life.
Asanas (postures, exercises) stretch, massage, and stimulate the muscles, internal organs, and glandular system. Pranayama (breathing techniques) is effective against poor breathing habits, which are otherwise very common, and activates otherwise inactive chest muscles. The lungs fill to their full capacity, and oxygen intake is improved. The blood is cleansed of toxins, and the lungs are expanded and strengthened. Certain exercises directly affect metabolism, regulate the exchange of substances, and positively influence digestion.
Hatha Yoga can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age, just like walking—everyone finds their own pace. There is no competition or measurability of the physical feat; rather, each person gets to know their body and pushes their boundaries through regular practice. Yoga stimulates all parts of our body so that, as a whole, they can function in optimal health, calmly and relaxed.
Yoga is a natural path, and the results develop naturally and gradually. You should not practice excessively, but you must not be negligent either. When you practice correctly and regularly, with faith, you can be sure you will reap the fruits of your labor. Have trust, self-confidence, and develop your willpower, concentration ability, faith, and love—with the help of Yoga.
Yoga classes are led by certified instructors from the VIDYA Yoga School: Dragana Loncara, Marija Dimitrijević, and Jelena Mićanović.
