The National theatre in Belgrade began work in 1868. The first play "Djuradj Brankovic" by Karoli Obernjak was held (according to the new calendar) on 22nd of November 1868 in the restaurant "Kod engleske kraljice", which served as a temporary home of this theatre for the first year.
