The first electric light bulb was lit in Belgrade in 1880, in front of the tavern called "Kod Skupstine" ("At City Hall's") which today is the Electric company building in Belgrade. Most of the guests looked at it through glass stained in soot because they believed that looking at the bulb directly could turn them blind.
