The first marketplace in Belgrade originated in 1824. It was located near the then Turkish graveyard and later moved in front of Captain Misa's building, near the Students' square and the road to Stambol. Anyone could bring their goods to the market to sell, so the popular "Grand market" soon became the main place to shop.
